The Northeast Research and Education Network (NEREN) is a non-profit, member-driven organization that connects the Northeast’s state research and education networks, along with their member institutions and research centers. We provide secure infrastructure that keeps sensitive data moving at the speed of light, and we foster the community that helps ideas travel just as quickly.

Purpose Built
NEREN is a high-capacity and extremely secure network designed exclusively for higher education and research, delivering regional-scale solutions that amplify what individual state networks provide.
Connected
NEREN unites the Northeast’s state networks, linking them to one another, key regional data centers, and global research resources through Internet2. This shared infrastructure enables data to move directly between trusted institutions rather than through third parties. Where state networks exist, campuses connect through their state network, which in turn connects to NEREN.
Collaborative
NEREN is a peer-driven community that engages its members in decision-making, values shared progress, and convenes its community for collaboration.
