Membership
Who Can Join
NEREN membership is open to organizations across the Northeast that advance education and research. Members include:
- State Networks – regional RENs that represent multiple institutions. If your local state network is already part of NEREN, then so are you!
- Individual Institutions – colleges and universities that do not have access to a state network, including smaller campuses
- Affiliates – research or education-focused organizations that benefit from secure connectivity and collaboration with peers
Institutions seeking to participate should first engage with their state network to determine the best connection pathway. NEREN works closely with these networks to ensure all members are represented and supported.
Benefits of Membership
Joining NEREN means gaining access to both advanced technology and a trusted community of state and regional research networks. Through NEREN, member state networks and their communities benefit from shared infrastructure, expertise, and collaboration opportunities that extend across the Northeast.
Reduce costs and complexity by leveraging shared infrastructure and collective resources — benefits that each state network extends to its member campuses and partners.
Connect once through their state network (or directly for those that do not have a state network) to gain access to NEREN, Internet2, and peer institutions across the region.
Participate in a collaborative community that values shared progress, knowledge sharing, and cooperation.
Receive technical expertise, reliable support, and opportunities to engage in joint projects and committees.
